Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 is a bold and wide-reaching plan. It aims to change and improve many parts of life in the Kingdom. One focus is on how Muslims worldwide perform Umrah and Hajj pilgrimages. The goal is to make Umrah and Hajj simpler, safer, and more comfortable. This vision marks a new era for pilgrimage travel and related services.
The following is a brief but comprehensive explanation about how the Vision 2030 affects Umrah and Hajj services:
The number of Umrah pilgrims would rise from about 8 million a year (as at present) to 30 million a year by 2030 as part of Vision 2030. This would provide the opportunity to perform Umrah to millions more Muslims in the Kingdom.
The holy sites, including Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid al-Nabawi in Madinah, are being expanded to accommodate a larger number of people. Transportation, roads, and accommodations are all better. Most of this was due to the fact that the Haramain high-speed train now safely, conveniently and comfortably whisks pilgrims between the two cities.
The Kingdom launched an e-visa system that enables Muslims around the world to apply for an Umrah visa online. That supplants the older, slower draws with faster processing (sometimes in fewer than 24 hours). By facilitating the visa process pilgrims have less downtime and find greater convenience.
To help smooth the way for every step of the journey — from before pilgrims’ arrival back to their homes — Saudi Arabia started the Pilgrim Experience Program.
This program focuses on:
Learning with millions of visitors, crowd management systems have been upgraded, as have health services, from telehealth to emergency care. There are also special services to assist elderly and disabled pilgrims, including electric wheelchairs and trained volunteers.
This is a vision which aspires to improve and develop the lives of pilgrims in Saudi Arabia as a whole, with the aim of diversifying its economy, through religious tourism-creating job opportunities, attracting investment and marketing Saudi culture and heritage worldwide, and at the same time offering fulfilling spiritual experiences to visitors.
It thus goes beyond the religious acts, to historic-cultural sites across Saudi Arabia, enabling a connection of pilgrimage-the physical exercising-with a deeper understanding of Islamic history and heritage of the Kingdom.
New airports, high-speed trains (such as Haramain), and increased hotels are being constructed. This allows for easy movement for pilgrims between Makkah and Madinah to other places.
Government assistance to pilgrims through technology includes having apps on prayer time, location address, and conduct a guide interaction online.
Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 has transformed the modalities of Umrah travel and pilgrimage services to increase the capacity, make access to visas simpler, improve infrastructure, employ digital technology with a very solid and increased emphasis on pilgrims’ safety and experience. Creating a more welcoming, efficient, and spiritually fulfilling environment for millions of Muslims worldwide including those seeking affordable Umrah options.
This transformation supports the Kingdom’s broader goals of economic and social development. It also reflects Saudi Arabia’s dedication to serving the Two Holy Mosques and their pilgrims.
