Essential Guide to Umrah Visa Rules for UK Citizens in 2025

Starting the spiritual journey of Umrah is an exciting feeling, especially for pilgrims coming from the United Kingdom in 2025. Journeys tend to be a lot smoother when you know the visa and entry requirements clearly. The updates to the rules are also for the good and safety of all pilgrims; hence, preparation is now more key than before. This complete guide provides the latest directive on visa options, health requirements and customs rulings.

A Major Change for 2025: The Umrah Package Mandate

The biggest change for 2025 is that there will no longer be a “visa-only” selection order. From 10 June 2025, all Umrah visas shall be applied through a full-service Umrah package. Under this new regulation, which has been rolled out through the official Nusuk system, all passengers who are intending to obtain visas must have confirmed bookings for accommodation, flights and ground transport. Gone are the days when one was free to travel alone – now it is only in groups or organised by tour if one wants to visit for Umrah.

Choosing the Right Visa for Your Journey

There are many visa options for UK citizens to do Umrah; here they can be broadly explained. It is adjustable and comes with a small case with eight extra setscrew tips.

  • The Umrah-Specific Visa: One more plus of the visa is that it allows you to carry ZamZam water when leaving Saudi (this being a zero facility available in tourist visas). It is a single-entry visa for a fixed duration.
  • The Saudi Arabia Tourist E-Visa: This is the option for the masses, for good reason. A multiple-entry visa for up to 90 days per visit, valid for one year Recommended for anyone who would rather tourism as well as pilgrimage, The biggest benefit is that whether you get your own insurance or you choose to go with whatever coverage Qatar provides, as part of the tourist e-visa, health insurance is included by virtue for emergency medical costs should they occur while on tour.
  • The Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW): This one is a newer version, with only one entry and up to a 6-month stay. It is valid for Umrah outside of Hajj season.
  • Visa on Arrival: UK nationals are able to get a visa on arrival eVisa at all international Saudi Arabian airports. This you can do through a self-service kiosk or at passport control.

Essential Requirements for Your 2025 Pilgrimage

To ensure your application and entry process are seamless, be sure to meet the following requirements:

  • Passport Validity: Your UK passport should be valid at least for 6 months from when you arrive in Saudi Arabia. Your passport will not be accepted if it is invalid or reported lost or stolen.
  • Mandatory Vaccinations: A vaccination certificate against meningococcal meningitis (ACWY) is a requirement for all travellers that are two years old or more travelling starting from February 1, 2025. The vaccine cannot be given less than 10 days prior to your departure.
  • Age and Gender Requirements: You must be 18 years or older to drive alone. Anyone under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or responsible adult (brother or sister over the age of 18) or a child minder with written approval governing what children want to do.
  • Required Documents for an E-Visa:You are required to upload a recent colour passport-size picture, a scanned copy of the passport bio page, proof of your confirmed Umrah package (flight + hotel + ground transport), a bank statement and a round ticket at the time of the online application.
  • Penalties for Overstaying: Do not ever dare to up the limit of your visa. This may lead to same serious penalties like fines, detainment, deporting and when you are admissible there is a high possibility that the government will ban your re-admission.

Important Travel & Customs Information

  • Hajj Season: Until the Hajj, or haj solstice, additional flight restrictions exist. Non-Hajj pilgrims will be stopped from flying to Jeddah, Madinah and Taif. For those cities, you need to have a Hajj visa to board those flights during this time.
  • Previous Travel to Israel: Passports that contain visas/stamps/indications of travel to Israel will be denied entry.
  • Prohibited Items: Saudi customs has strict rules. Alcohol; pork & pork products; pornographic materials; and religious material (except for Islamic publications) are among the items prohibited from being imported. Which might even involve reviewing stuff like personal videos and books.
  • Using a Specific Visa for ZamZam Water: But keep in mind that you will be asked to show your Umrah visa in order to leave the city with ZamZam water. If you are travelling on a tourist e-visa, then this is not allowed.

Following these rules and arranging your trip through a legitimate Umrah package, you will be able to simply concentrate on the religious dimensions of your pilgrimage. Wishing you a blessed and fruitful journey.
